Synopsis

The protagonist is struggling to memorize a vast amount of historical information about the Visenna family in a short two-day period. She learns from another test-taker about their unorthodox method of passing tests by torturing the examiner. She then receives a 'gift' from Duke Sharkis – a poison, indicating a hostile environment. The protagonist is waiting at the palace, along with others, for the Grand Duke to appear, but he remains absent.
