Synopsis

The chapter opens with a discussion about the instability of the empire due to the ongoing succession conflict and the need for Karmelit to marry. He rejects the prepared list of suitable noble ladies, instead proposing to Reinelle, admitting his feelings and offering her help with political matters. Simultaneously, Karmelit asks to be Princess Sapphire's caretaker because he feels pity for her loneliness. Later, Willheim presents Karmelit with a list of candidates to be his empress, but Karmelit dismisses it, reasserting the importance of a wolf's mate.
