After returning from an outing, the protagonist finds his town being searched by an outside force, looking for a missing pistol and accusing him of being out late. A quick-thinking acquaintance vouches for him citing the orders of Boss Luo, a powerful figure within the town's governing body. It turns out that Boss Luo is interested in a medicine the protagonist makes, and is willing to guarantee the protagonist's safety in return for monthly deliveries. However, entry into the stronghold is still not granted due to their status as unclean individuals.
The protagonist returns from a mission, and a search is conducted for a missing pistol, leading to accusations and a tense standoff. The chapter ends with the reveal of a powerful patron, Boss Luo, who is interested in the protagonist's medicine.
