Synopsis

The chapter opens with a conversation between Penelope and her adoptive father on the morning of her coming-of-age ceremony. They discuss a request Penelope made years ago, his reasons for having guards watch her, and his regret regarding his past treatment of her. Reynold is revealed to have confessed to framing her for stealing Yvonne's necklace. This leads to Penelope reflecting on her emotional suppression as a child and ultimately questioning what would happen to the game and herself if she escaped it.
